The Last Man on Earth was an interesting story…I really don’t know that the title of the book had to do with the story. I am currently searching the text for the title, because there wasn’t anything about being the last man on earth mentioned or alluded too.Any ohha! I still loved this story.
I was introduced to Tracy Anne Warren well before I started blogging and writing reviews through her historical series. Lately I haven’t read the historical romance genre much so have gotten away from reading her books. So when I saw she was writing a contemporary novel, I jumped all over it!
The Last Man on Earth is the story of two people driven in the world of advertising that are direct competitors for the same position. While Madelyn Grayson toes the line, she fights for the top jobs while maintaining her dignity along they way. But her opinion of Zack Douglas is less than stellar, believing he is out to get all the juiciest jobs and doesn’t mind stepping on anyone to get there.
While the two face off for the different contracts to advance their career, a chance meeting a New Year’s Eve party leaves them wanting more after a one nightstand. The two keep meeting, but keep their affair a secret until Madelyn wants more, but knows Zach isn’t ready to give her more. It’s all supposed to be fun and games right? Until Zach is faced with losing Madelyn and he can’t get past his disbelief of love even for her.
While the sex is hot, it had a Victorian feel to it at times. This isn’t the erotic I have gotten used to lately, which was refreshing as I got to know the characters more and their anatomy a little less. Now I don’t mean that the sex isn’t steamy because it is, but after a while the details got less and less as we got to the heart of the issues that are driving these two apart.
I really don’t know where the title of this story came from. It’s not like Zach really is the last man on earth, nor do I remember Madelyn uttering those words. The only thing I can think gave the title to the story was they were co-workers who competed, so he would be the last man on earth she should ever get involved with.
We meet the Grayson’s and get to know the siblings not attached yet…all women. Up next will be Madelyn’s youngest sister and Madelyn’s ex-fiance. I don’t want to say much about the ex-fiance except he is a good guy and not ex because he did anything wrong. It just wasn’t the lusty love match that Madelyn needs.
In general, I found the story to be refreshing and made me once again want to go back and read the author’s older works again!
Do you believe in love? I hope so.
